Black Knights, Inc. #3
Rev it Up by Julie Ann Walker
Rev it Up was actually the first book I picked up in the Black Knight's Inc. Series before realizing it was the third book and starting from the beginning. And hallelujah for that. Julie Ann Walker has a way with writing and I love her for it, but this one disappointed me. Never fear, it wasn't bad, but after the other two? Nah, just didn't do it.
Of course, I loved Jake. He was cool and, overall, just a total refresher. It's rare for me to encounter a hero with such connection to his feelings, I mean - from the very beginning, he pretty much had "I love her, I'm going to win her." in his head. Vanessa and Rock got me, too, that flirtation? Hot! Julie Ann Walker's great with characterization - not one thing is atypical of the character.
That said, some of Jake's lingo annoyed me, though barely. What really annoyed me, though, was the twist. Gosh, that twist. That twist is what ruined the book for me. I expected it, in a way, but it sort of cheapened the plot to me because I had loved the lightness of the book and how easygoing Jake was. And, boy oh boy, was it hard warming up to Michelle after that. I mean... All she did was whine...

and talk...
and talk...
and whine...
and whine some more.
I tried to be understanding, I really did, but jeez?
Shut up!
I did like, though, that Jake wasn't afraid to cry; made me love him all the more. On top of that; there were these annoying POVs from Johnny and one had me nearly barfing - details, much? There were also some unanswered questions at the end *SPOILER* Was Shell pregnant? Did Franklin find out*SPOILER* And, all that aside, which three year old has an iPad? Hooo-kayy.
Anyway, I tried to get over Shell and the end was cute and the book's hilarity made up for it. All in all, I don't regret reading it, but I wouldn't pick up again like I would the other books.
